PROJECT DETAILS:

This project involved the replacement of a shared-use timber bridge with a prefabricated steel truss to provide pedestrian and non-vehicular traffic access over the MBTA and CSX railroad. The scope of work consisted of removing the existing structure and granite abutments, while repairing sections of the existing crashwall which would remain in place for continued use. The existing utilities were engineered to remain temporarily supported throughout demolition and construction until the new bridge was installed. Once the bridge was removed, two new concrete abutments were constructed, and a new 24 ton steel Bridge was fabricated and transported to site in one complete span. Due to high power overhead utility lines, the bridge was engineered to be launched and set in place during a single 8-hour track shutdown. The permanent water and gas utilities were then transferred to the new structure and the temp. supports removed. After the successful completion of the launch, approach work and site finishes were completed.
