MAS Building & Bridge, Inc. worked with MassDOT to complete this bridge and culvert replacement project, along Hamlin Street. The new Bridge No. A-03-003 consists of a precast, pretensioned voided slab multi-beam superstructure with a cast-in-place concrete deck, supported on cast-in-place (CIP) concrete cantilever abutments founded on steel H-pile foundations driven to bedrock. The channel was protected by using natural streambed armor. The new Culvert No. A-03-008 consists of a precast concrete box culvert with a buried invert and natural streambed armor.
Retaining walls with a total combined length of approximately 250 ft were constructed on the north side of the roadway to limit permanent impacts to the adjacent Town of Acushnet Park Commission property and wetland disturbance. Retaining walls with a total combined length of 200 ft were constructed on the south side of the roadway to limit permanent impacts to the adjacent historic property and wetlands. The walls on the south side of the roadway reused the stones from the existing retaining walls as facing for the new walls supplemented with new stone as required to complete the work.
The construction required the demolition and full depth reconstruction of approximately 531 feet of approach roadway including transitions.
